ATLANTA, GA. – Kennesaw State University President Betty Siegel will join new Habitat for Humanity homeowner Deinta Shaw and HomeBanc Chief People Officer Dwight “Ike” Reighard on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m. to dedicate the Habitat home built by Kennesaw State and HomeBanc volunteers in Smyrna, Ga.

The home is located at 524 Pat Mell Road in Smyrna (see directions below).

Each week since November, volunteers from HomeBanc and Kennesaw State have worked together with the Shaw, a law enforcement and detention officer with the Fulton County Sheriffs Department.  Shaw will live in the home with her 15-year-old daughter, Denitia Carter.

The dedication ceremony will consist of a blessing of the house, a ribbon cutting and other festivities, including Habitat’s traditional “key ceremony” in which Shaw will be presented with the key to her new home.

Siegel and Reighard were both on hand for the home’s first build day and are both excited about the completion of this project.  The HomeBanc Foundation provided the financial support for the project and HomeBanc’s community affairs and foundation manager Amanda Albertelli coordinated the project.  Other sponsors of the project were Fidelity National Title, Neel & Robinson, Freddie Mac and D.S. Murphy.  Ten to 15 Kennesaw State students joined a similar number of HomeBanc volunteers working on the house each Saturday.

“We’re thankful to HomeBanc for providing an opportunity for our students to learn about the value of giving back to the community,” said Siegel.  “As a university, our goal is to impart the kind of knowledge our students need to succeed in their jobs while helping to build character that will help them succeed in their lives.”

Kennesaw State has been a terrific partner on this project and I know seeing the efforts result in a completed house is a real joy for their students and for the HomeBanc volunteers that worked here too,” said Reighard.

HomeBanc’s partnership with Kennesaw State goes back several years, with HomeBanc accessing Kennesaw State faculty expertise on various business issues.  Additionally, Reighard serves on the advisory board of the university’s Center for Leadership, Ethics and Character.

This will be the 25th Habitat for Humanity home HomeBanc has completed since the company announced a goal of building 100 Habitat homes in 2000.
