Senator Johnny Isakson Tackles Social Security Reform at Atlanta Press Club’s Newsmaker Luncheon

ATLANTA — Freshman U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Georgia) will tackle the nation's hot topic of Social Security reform as he addresses the Atlanta Press Club on Friday, April 1 at The Commerce Club.  As a member of the Senate Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and the Subcommittee on Retirement, he will discuss his solution as he personalizes the message to a hometown audience of media and business leaders. This luncheon is sponsored by SunTrust.

Senator Isakson will invite the audience to use their calculators as he examines the $26 trillion dilemma and how to prevent it. He describes his solution as "the time value of money."

"Arithmetic is a fact, and facts are stubborn. In the 70-year period since the advent of Social Security, pick any 20 consecutive years that you like and pick any traditional conservative investment model that you like, and in that 20-year period of time, it exceeded the return on Social Security four to five times," he said in a recent Senate floor speech.

Since his graduation from the University of Georgia, Senator Isakson has been comfortable with math as both a businessman and public servant, serving as President of Northside Realty for 22 years and 17 years as a representative in the Georgia General Assembly.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch. Senator Isakson will speak at 12:30 p.m. and end with a question & answer session by 1 p.m.

The event is open to the public. Members of the Atlanta Press Club may purchase individual tickets for $28 and tables with signage for $280. Nonmembers may purchase individual tickets for $35 each and tables of 10 with signage for $350.
