Credit Counseling Meets Reality Television on A&E’s Big Spender; Premieres Sunday July 9

Consumer Credit Counseling Service provides valuable consumer education on A&E’s Big Spender -- premieres Sunday July 9, 5:30 p.m.

ATLANTA, GA. July 7, 2006 — As an organization that helps shape the financial lives of consumers, Consumer Credit Counseling Service is always looking for new ways to reach consumers with critical financial lessons. Beginning this Sunday, CCCS counselor and financial education specialist Richard Clements can be seen helping consumers as he counsels clients for “Big Spender,” a NorthSouth production for the A&E Television Network.

Clements will help participants examine their current troubled financial situations and implement strategies to improve their changes for financial success. “In a process very similar to a counseling session, we interview the client, gathering budget, debt, income and spending information,” said Clements. CCCS then develops a plan of counseling advice which is incorporated into the show’s script.

“We also work with each client in an on-air session, reinforcing the recommendations of the action plan,” said Clements, who works in the Palm Beach County, FL office of CCCS. “After taping, we continue to track each client, providing support and monitoring their progress.”

The first episode of “Big Spender” is scheduled to air at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 on A&E. In this episode, “Anna and Frank are shopping away their dreams. Regularly spending more than double what they earn every month and one month behind on their mortgage, the couple has decided to forgo another mortgage payment to take their family on vacation. With the finances chipping away at their marriage and their dream home they just purchased in jeopardy of foreclosure, Anna and Frank are in desperate need of an intervention. Larry Winget hosts.” (from A&E)
